The Scientific Center
The Scientific Center was built by Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of the Sciences (KFAS) in Kuwait. The Scientific Center in Kuwait is a huge complex consisting of the Dhow Harbor and Salmiyyah Fishing Piers, Aquarium, IMAX 3D Cinema, and Discovery Place.
Dhow Harbor and Salmiyyah Fishing Piers
The Dhow Harbor stretches for about one kilometer along the Arabian Gulf. Dhows or traditional ships of the pre-oil era are displayed along the water front. Fateh-El-Khair, the largest cargo ship along with five smaller dhows used for fishing, pearl diving and cargo transport are arranged in order for tourist visits. The Salmiyyah Fishing Piers extends up to sixty five meters into the Arabian Gulf.
The Scientific Center Aquarium is the largest of its kind in the Middle East. There are three sections in the Aquarium. One section displays marine flora and fauns. The second section exhibits mammals, birds and reptiles of the desert. The third section displays coastal animal and plant life.
The marine section is the most attractive to visitors. It displays a variety of rays and sharks for visitors entertainment.
IMAX 3D Cinema
This Scientific Center variety attracts hordes of visitors. The Scientific Center houses an IMAX 3D cinema hall with a giant screen of width 20 meters and height of 15 meters. The 3D theater has a 8,000 watt sound system.
The viewer is completely engrossed by the settings and virtually becomes part of the cinema. It is an exhilarating experience for the cine-goer to this Scientific Center IMAX 3D Cinema. This is a must visit place for all travelers to Kuwait.
Discovery Place in The Scientific Center of Kuwait endeavors to teach scientific methods and principles through games and fun. The exhibits are categorized for visitors of all ages from children to teenagers to adults.
Hands-on demonstration under the guidance of specialized instructors makes learning a fun process for everybody. A puppet show is also held daily to highlight the importance of water conservation.
